Awards and Prizes

Grand Prizes

Grand prizes will be given out to the best three competitors in each instrument category.

The instrument categories:

  • Piano
  • Strings (Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Harp, Guitar)

In each instrument category, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will receive certificates and trophies as well as an invitation to perform at the gala concert in Vancouver (date to be announced as the pandemic subsides). Air travel will be covered up to a maximum of $1,000 for winners residing outside of British Columbia.

In addition, the top three winners will have the opportunity to be featured in a documentary film, a professional video recording of a performance, a profile spotlight on the VIMC website, the opportunity to attend a virtual masterclass with jury members, and the opportunity to perform with orchestra.

Age Category Prizes

The age categories:

  • Junior Talent: ages 8 and under
  • Young Talent: ages 9–12
  • Young Artists: ages 13–17
  • Artists: ages 18–35

Certificate of Excellence

Medals and Certificates of Excellence will awarded to the Gold, Silver, and Bronze performers from each age category.

Certificate of Merit

Certificates of Merit will be awarded to each age category’s best performance of a Canadian composition. A list of recommended Canadian repertoire can be found by clicking this link.

Certificate of Achievement

Each finalist, along with their teacher, will receive a Certificate of Achievement for their participation in the Vancouver International Music Competition.

Music Fest Perugia Scholarship

Music Fest Perugia is awarding $1500 CAD scholarships to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place piano competitors. Additionally, winners have the opportunity to perform concerti alongside Music Fest Perugia’s orchestras.
