Since his successes at the International Piano Competition of Japan (1992), Busoni (1992 – Italy), Leeds (1993 – U.K.), Washington (1993 – Washington D.C.) and William Kapell (1994 – Maryland, U.S.) international piano competitions, Mark Anderson has appeared frequently as recitalist, soloist and chamber musician. He has performed in Japan, throughout much of Europe and Great Britain, Ireland and North America.

Mark Anderson has collaborated with conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Nicholas McCegan, William Boughton, George Cleve, and Adam Fischer. In recital, Mark has appeared at New York’s Alice Tully Hall and Weill Hall, the Kennedy Center and the Phillips Gallery in Washington D.C., London’s Wigmore Hall and Zurich’s Tonhalle and elsewhere throughout Europe and North America. His solo and concerto performances are complimented by chamber music work, most recently with the newly formed Röntgen Piano Trio. The trio is committed to illuminating the darker corners of the piano trio literature while giving fresh interpretations of the masterworks in that genre.

Mr. Anderson records exclusively with Nimbus Records and has released recordings of works by Liszt, Schumann, Brahms, Dohnanyi, Copland, Gershwin, Mussorgsky and Stravinsky. He has recorded 2 CDs of the solo piano works by Hans von Bülow and, since 2014, has released five CDs of solo piano music of the German/Dutch composer Julius Röntgen. Along with recent recordings of Röntgen’s piano music, Mark is researching and editing scores of unpublished works that heretofore existed only in manuscript. Recording, editing and publishing these previously unknown works introduces new and high-quality works into the piano repertoire. Mark recorded a CD of 2-pianos works with Canadian pianist Michelle Mares, which includes works by Brahms, Reinecke and Röntgen – the works by Röntgen being world premieres, the scores of which are available through Nimbus Music Publishing (https://www.wyastone.co.uk/nmp). Most recently, Julius Rontgen Piano Music 6 was released April 4, 2025. All recordings are available on Amazon, Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube and other online streaming platforms.

Mark received his early training with Trula Whelan and later more formative study with Aiko Onishi in California. In 1988, he received a Fulbright Scholarship to continue his studies in the UK with Ryszard Bakst in Manchester and Benjamin Kaplan in London.

Mark Anderson is an Associate Professor and chair of the keyboard division at the University of British Columbia School of Music and is the former owner and Executive Director of New World Music Academy in Pleasanton, California.

Mr. Anderson is a Steinway artist.

Ian Parker

Pianist; Music Director and Principal Conductor of the VAM Symphony Orchestra

Alexander Brose | Robin McCabe | Timothy Long

Mark Anderson | Ian Parker | Domagoj Ivanovic

Lani Krantz | Brenda Fedoruk

Screenshot

Magnetic, easy-going, and delightfully articulate, Canadian pianist and conductor Ian Parker captivates audiences wherever he goes.
