MEET SOME OF OUR STRING JURIES

Joseph Elworthy Concert CellistPresident & CEO of the Vancouver Academy of Music, Joseph Elworthy enjoys a vibrant career as an Arts & Culture leader, music educator, and performing artist. Joseph Elworthy has been a featured soloist, recitalist, and chamber music performer. Upon graduation from Yale, Mr. Elworthy was the recipient of the Yo-Yo Ma/Aldo Parisot Prize – the highest honour issued by Yale University to a graduating cellist. Mr. Elworthy has been a visiting lecturer at the Beijing Conservatory, Harvard University, Royal Northern College of Music, Glenn Gould School, and the Royal Conservatory of Music. Joseph Elworthy serves as Artistic Advisor for the Haw Par Music Foundation – a collaborative educational initiative linking Canada and Asia that concentrates on chamber music studies. He has appeared on numerous television and radio broadcasts around the globe including media outlets such as CBC, A&E, BRAVO, PBS, Radio Europe, and NHK.

Ken Hsieh

Music Director, ConductorA Charming, Passionate, and Compelling presence on the podium, Award-Winning Conductor Kenneth Hsieh, has gained widespread attention for his vibrant performances, making him one of the most exciting and versatile young conductors on the international stage today. The 2020-2021 season marks his 18th year as Music Director of the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra in addition to his many international guests conducting engagements. Among other honors and recognitions, he has been awarded the Order of Merit for Outstanding Young Leaders from the Lions Club, Named Top 100 most influential Asian-Canadians by Vancouver Sun, Top 10 Most Beautiful People by TV Weeks Magazine (which included Michael Buble), as well as most recently Top 33 most influential leaders by Sing Tao News and most recently Top 10 Elite Chinese-Canadians. APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED
The VIMC’s purpose is to host a quality musical event for the competitors and local music community. This year’s virtual international music competition will allow performers from worldwide to compete in a flexible environment to express their own musical talents. 

Application & Submission Deadlines:
Preliminary Round- June 15, 2021, 11:59pm
Final Round- August 31, 2021, 11:59pm
