Prizes & Awards

Grand Prizes

Up to three Grand PrizesFirst, Second, and Third Prize in Each of the Four Categories—will be awarded in each competition category.

Grand Prize recipients will receive:

  • Official certificates
  • Trophies
  • Cash prizes (top 3 of each category, regardless the ages)
  • An invitation to perform at the Vancouver International Music Competition Gala Concert in Vancouver

The total cash prizes awarded across all categories may reach up to CAD $15,000.

Attendance and Performance Requirement
Grand Prize winners are required to attend and perform at the Gala Concert.
Failure to do so without prior approval from the Competition Committee may result in disqualification from receiving the associated cash prize.

In addition, selected Grand Prize winners may be offered:

  • Participation in a documentary film project
  • professional performance video recording
  • featured artist profile on the Vancouver International Music Festival website
  • Opportunities to attend masterclasses with jury members
  • Concerto and additional performance opportunities, where applicable

The Competition Committee reserves the right to withhold or adjust cash prizes under exceptional circumstances.


Age Category Awards

Awards will also be presented within the following age divisions:

  • Junior Talent: Ages 8 and under
  • Young Talent: Ages 9–12
  • Young Artists: Ages 13–17
  • Artists: Ages 18–35

Certificates of Excellence

Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals and Certificates of Excellence will be awarded to outstanding performers in each age category.


Best Performance of a Canadian Composition

Cash Prizes and Certificates of Merit, issued by the Canadian Music Centre (CMC) – BC Region, will be awarded to candidates in each age category for the Best Performance of a Canadian Composition.


Certificates of Achievement

Each finalist, together with their teacher, will receive a Certificate of Achievement in recognition of their participation in the Vancouver International Music Competition.
