2017 Vancouver International Music Competition Announces Preliminary Round Results

The 2017 Vancouver International Music Competition (VIMC) committee announces the results for the preliminary round of the competition. Organized by the Canada International Arts & Music Society, the VIMC is an international classical music competition for three age groups and instrumental categories including piano, strings, and voice. Eligible stringed instruments for the competition included violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp, and classical guitar. The VIMC has age groups for each instrumental category including Junior Talent (ages 12 and under), Young Artists (ages 13-17), and Artists (18-35). Celebrating Canada’s 150^th anniversary, the VIMC aims to promote Canadian classical music worldwide by establishing prizes for performing Canadian classical compositions.

Prizes up for grabs in the final round include three cash prizes for each category, a cash prize for the best performance of a Canadian composition, among other awards and prizes.

With close to three hundred applications, the inaugural year of the VIMC successfully held auditions onsite in Nanjing, China and Vancouver, Canada, as well as accepting video submissions from participants from all over the world.  Talented finalists were selected from countries including Canada, United States of America, China, Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Argentina, Taiwan, and Poland.
